Sinan Cetin

Meet Sinan Cetin. Originally from Istanbul, Turkey. A compassionate person who always thinks about helping others, a loving and caring brother, health conscious since he once was obese, and hopeful to have his own office in the future. He is someone grateful in everything he has now and believes in being be positive and working for your future.

Let us know more about his life’s experiences and advises he can give.

Questions:

Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?

A: “I was taking care of my younger brother and I had to find a job. I found a job at Cutco. My first month was pretty tough because at Cutco you have to start with people that you know, you can’t door to door, cold calling or canvassing. The company provides scholarship for my brother.  One summer, a lady told me to send my presentation ,she referred me to different people and after that I became a top sales agent. This summer I was promoted as Assistant Manager and hopefully after graduation I will run my own office.”

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Champaign-Urbana, and what do you love there?

A: “Jurassic Grill” which is on our own campus, it is a burger joint, and I usually order a cheese burger and fries.”

Q: How long have you lived or worked in Champaign-Urbana?

A: “I’ve been working here for 2 years now.”

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in Champaign -Urbana?

A: “Monet Buyern, his dad was in the military and he lived and grew up in all different countries, so he had better understanding of the world and most people. He was an electrician but got into an accident that caused him damage to his nerves. But that made him realized to be more grateful for life. He inspired me to be grateful for what we have even though we lost everything.”

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?

A: “Turkey. Because I miss my family and friends. I want to show my parents what I made of myself and make them proud.”

Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?

A: “Just because we don’t see God working, doesn’t mean He’s not working. Trust the process, life is hard but it is not about what happens to you, it’s about what you are going to do about it. Stay positive and work for your future.”

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

A: “To have my own office, I’m so excited about that. I want to share to greater opportunity and have a marketing company. I want to share this opportunity with other teams, college students like me who are struggling to pay college fees. This job really helped me to pay for my expenses.”

Q: What current / former local business makes you the most nostalgic about Champaign -Urbana?

A:” I have not been here for long, but I would say Kams because I heard it will be closing and I really had good memories there.”

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?

A: “Sales. I want to have my own real estate company.”

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know

about you?

A: “I used to be a fat man when I was growing up. I was obese. But by eating less and working out, I lost 50 pounds. That is why I was really health conscious throughout high school”

Q: What 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

A: “Family, Friends and Community”

Q: If you had a full time staff member that was fully paid for, who would you choose?

Chef, Housekeeper, Driver, Coach, Physical Fitness Trainer, or Nanny?

A: “House Keeper. It is a challenge to clean up after my brother’s mess. To be fair, he’s doing a better job now but I just struggle to clean up the house.”
