Questions:
Q: . What inspired you or led you to your current career?
A: “I was working for the University of Illinois at that time and funding was questionable, so I had a colleague that I car pulled with that encouraged me to either go to school or start a business. I didn’t have time to go to school, I had 3 young children, so I opted to go the business route, though kind of a combination of the classes I took in high school. Growing up as a son of a very talented handy man, I gained a lot of knowledge and home skills working with him. I put that all together and choose the carrier path of home inspector.”
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Champaign-Urbana, and what do you love there?
A: “I love barbeque, so I would have to say Hickory River and the beef brisket sandwich with mix sauce gets the top node.”
Q: How long have you lived or worked in Champaign-Urbana?
A: “I’ve lived in Champaign-Urbana my entire life except for 1 year when we moved to Monticello because of my Dad’s job.”
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in Champaign Urbana?
A: “Former Governor Jim Edgar, had an opportunity to do some inspecting work for him. I found that he is a very engaging person, very nice, very intelligent , a very real person and very down to earth.”
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A:” I would go to Israel and visit the Holy Land.”
Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?
A:” I would tell them that life is not fair, bad things happens to good people and to just move forward. If we are quick to take that “I’m a victim mentality” that will pull us under. It’s far better to accept what’s going on, take a step or two forward every day and you’ll be amazed how different you’re life will be in 6 months or a year.”
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A:” I’ve got to take my wife to Hawaii- that’s a dream of hers’ and mine. I would like to attend a woodworking school.”
Q: What current / former local business makes you the most nostalgic about The Champaign Urbana?
A: “Garcia’s Pizza, that was the best pizza around.”
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Champaign Urbana?
A: “It is a warm and friendly place, I’ve always felt that way. It is an open and inviting community.”
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?
A: “Still working, but at the 10 year mark I’ll be readily searching out retirement.”
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know
about you?
A: “When I was a kid I was somewhat obsessed with Evel Knievel and his ability to jump things on his motor cycle. I tried to emulate that on my bicycle. I invited 9 neighborhood friends of mine to have me jumped them. They lined up in age order, starting at 15. The littlest kid was at the end where the damage would occur and he was three years old. It was pretty cool and I made it, but I would never do anything like that now.”
Q: What 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
A: “Rested, Relax and refocus.”
Q: If you had a full time staff member that was fully paid for, who would you choose?
Chef, Housekeeper, Driver, Coach, Physical Fitness Trainer, or Nanny?
A: “I would most benefit with a physical fitness trainer, somebody to keep me moving and keep me doing the things I should do that I don’t currently do.”
