Evan Simpson

I’m husband to Erin, father to Makenzie, avid Cubs fan, and member of Windsor Road Christian Church. I work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation as a Senior Business & Finance Coordinator.

I enjoy serving on the Worship Ministry Team where I play piano and volunteer on the Tech Team. I like to play card/board games with my family, go to the movies, and follow sports in my free time.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
Erin and I recently celebrated five years of marriage and our daughter, Makenzie, turned four last November.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I was hired as a receptionist/secretary. My skillset has allowed me to progress to Accountant to Sr Business & Finance Coordinator. I love the variety of my day to day duties and also enjoy helping/consulting with my peers on business/finance issues.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Bobo’s BBQ, Huaraches Moroleon, Texas Roadhouse, Cracker Barrel.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
9+ years.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Michael Brosco – Director of Research Application Development, board game fanatic, musician.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
Hawaii — to take my family on a dream vacation

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Happy wife, happy life.

Learning to play the guitar.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
Long John Silvers — I can’t count how many times I went there after church for lunch growing up.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Alan Tudyk, actor (Firefly, Serenity, I Robot, Rogue One, etc.) – Often overlooked like me, but tremendous at his craft. It’d be interesting to hear his take on his work over the years. We could talk over pizza at Papa Del’s.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
The Great Cover-Up — I didn’t even know it existed until I participated with Jeremy Pessin and his band The Underwerewolves in 2019. We played as the Righteous Brothers. Our local music scene is quite extraordinary.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Still in the area doing much of the same. Our family hopes to buy/build a home here later this year.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
In high school, I was part of an improv group called Paper Mache Cow.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (on our honeymoon).

October (Fall, B-day, Halloween); Christmas; January 16 (my anniversary)

My wife, Erin.

Bacon, Autumn air.
